Size
On the rear of the lift truck is a counterbalance, which allows the forklift to raise extremely heavy things. The counterbalance provides balance so that the equipment will not tip over while carrying and moving heavy cargo. Forklifts are rated based on their load capacity. A small forklift which could raise 1800 kilograms weighs around 4000 kilograms, that is equivalent to two full-size pickup trucks. The largest forklifts can have up to 36,000 kilograms of lifting capacity.

Considerations
There are many safety concerns included in using a lift truck. When driving down a ramp, travel in reverse. If the load interferes with vision and is bulky, haul it in reverse. Operators must be familiar with how to mount the lift safely using the "three-point stance." This includes putting the right hand on the back of the seat, while holding the upright of the safety cage with the left hand and placing the left foot on the step. Never jump out of a forklift even in a tip over. It is much safer to stay inside the confines of the lift. Any slip or fall on a forklift could result in severe injuries.

Potential
In many industries, the lift truck is considered an indispensable since they are required to quickly raise and move goods, unload and load products safely and with little to no physical exertion. Pedestrian safety is a primary consideration when working in public spaces. Operators must always give pedestrians the right-of-way. A lift truck should never be driven on uneven grounds or on a highway. The driver must have a seat belt fastened at all times while driving.
